The President of the United States of America Donald Trump’s policy is based primarily on defending the interests of the American state itself. Deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Parliament Ziyafet Askerov told Americandiary24.
According to him, Trump wants to ensure the interests of American people.
“Let's say that today there are NATO countries. The US, Canada and European countries are also members of NATO. Today European countries spend only two percent of their gross domestic product on maintaining NATO and ensuring their security through NATO. And Trump says, let's increase it up to five percent. Why? Because you need to spend money on security. Trump says, why should the US protect Europe’s security as it has been doing so far? The US provides most of the money, but Europe protects its security at the expense of the USA, and despite this, they don’t want to spend money” – Askerov said.
In his view, there is a logic here: “Where is France now, where is Germany?! Let them go and solve the issue. As soon as Trump makes a statement, Europe panics. This shows that Europe's security is very weak without the USA. They have been ensuring security due to the US so far. How long has the Russia-Ukraine problem been going on and there is no concrete result yet. In other words, Europe cannot resolve this conflict and Europe does not have the strength to resolve it. The US says that it wants this issue to be resolved. Specifically, President Donald Trump wants this issue to be resolved and an agreement reached on this issue. After Trump came to power in the US, it became clear that Europe's self-defense and security are like soap bubbles.
How many unfair statements were made against Azerbaijan by France, Germany, the Council of Europe and the European Parliament during the Biden administration. Why can't they make such statements against the US now? Because they are afraid, because without the US, Europe's security is nothing”, - he added.
