Joe Biden's presidency can be considered the most unsuccessful period of US foreign policy, including the South Caucasus. Even the era of Barack Obama, who with his failed policies led to the outbreak of wars and conflicts in different regions of the world and the stimulation of the activities of international terrorist networks, can be overshadowed compared to the problems caused by the period when Biden was in power. Although during Obama's presidency, Biden was the owner of the vice-presidential chair.
Trump's re-election as the President of the United States, the messages he gave both during the election campaign and later, if the process proceeds at the level of promises and statements, open wide prospects for the development of Washington-Baku relations.
One of the factors justifying this possibility is new US president’s approach to the global processes, the new world order and mutual relations of sovereign states from the point of view of classical state traditions. If we add Trump's conservative approach to family values, public morality and other values, we can say that the point of view of the new US president is closer to the political-ideological structure of our country.
I think that President Ilham Aliyev expressed objective realities about Donald Trump in a few sentences in an interview with China's CGTN TV channel. The head of state said, "During the first presidency of President Trump, the United States did not start any war. If we look at the history of the United States for at least a few decades, this was a rare experience. As for Azerbaijan, we are confident and optimistic."
In my opinion, the thoughts I quoted from President Ilham Aliyev completely express the reality and expectations regarding the foreign policy of Trump's country.
In his speech at the UN General Assembly in September 2019, Trump drew attention to the consequences of globalism and emphasized the importance of national sovereignty, statehood, and patriotism. I think that the points in Trump's speech that I quoted allow for the formation of clear ideas about a number of important directions not only related to the development perspective of Washington-Baku relations, but also related to the development of the process of building a new world order as a whole. From this point of view, I am of the opinion that the next 4 years will be a historical period in relation to US-Azerbaijani relations and global processes.
