The Senate voted on Thursday to confirm Kash Patel as the new FBI director, appointing a devoted ally of President Donald Trump and a prominent conservative figure to lead the nation’s top law enforcement agency.
Patel’s nomination sparked strong opposition from Democrats on Capitol Hill, who voiced concerns that he might use the role to target Trump’s perceived political adversaries.
In his Senate confirmation hearing, Patel pledged that the FBI would remain free from political influence and assured there would be “no retributive actions.” He also criticized Democrats for selectively using past statements, saying, “Snippets of information can be misleading.”
